Ms Manisha Gupta WINS yet another Award, after having been a WINNER at an International Film Festival in LOS ANGELES (Sept.) and the 6th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival (Apr.), for her Debut Screenplay “FALL” In SPRING….??, at the 5th Delhi Shorts International Film Festival, 2016 on November 6. Ms Manisha’s Short Film “HAPPINESS IS…” has Won an Award at the 2nd Dehradun International Film Festival, 2016. This Film has been an Official Selection at many International Film Festivals in India & Abroad.

Now, with IPR awareness spreading in India, she is getting involved with IPR training. She has been invited to speak at various IPR seminars and workshops. Has delivered lectures as resource/guest faculty at various IPR training programmes. Has a number of published articles/papers on IPR issues. Also attended a number of seminars, workshops & conferences pertaining to her areas of interest.

Manisha has been working in the area of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) for 10 years now. Her main focus areas have been IPR for MSMEs and IPRs for the cultural & creative industries.

·      Lectures on “Intellectual Property Rights Issues & Branding” and “Entrepreneurship & Motivation” in relevance to the Handicrafts industry, at NCDPD, (Ministry of Textiles Govt. of India) for the year 2012-2013.

·         Lectures on “Personality Development” for NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) students of First Year, Batch-II. This includes 2 combined batches of “Food Production”. The Courses are being conducted by AIHTM (Ashoka Institute of Hospitality & Tourism Management), New Delhi. May-2012

·         Invited to speak on “Brand Building” at the seminar “Future Prospects of the Crochet Industry- Emphasis on Trending Global Markets” held during “Home Expo-India-2012” (April-15-18,2012). This was organized by The EPCH (Export Promotoin Council for Handicrafts) at  The India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida. Aprl-18,2012

·         Lectures on “Human Resources Management” for Third year students of BIHBM (Bachelors of International Hospitality Business Management). The Courses are being conducted by AIHTM (Ashoka Institute of Hospitality & Tourism Management), New Delhi. March-2012

·         Invited to speak on “Increasing Competitiveness of Indian Handicrafts: Quality Compliance & Standards” at an International Seminar on “Increasing Competitiveness of Indian Handicrafts” during the “India International Trade Fair”(15th, 16th & 19th Nov.2011) at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, Nov.19, 2011

·         Lectures on “Intellectual Property Rights Issues & Branding” and “Entrepreneurship & Motivation” in relevance to the Handicrafts industry, at NCDPD, (Ministry of Textiles Govt. of India).For the year 2011-2012

·         Have been delivering lectures on “Intellectual Property Rights Issues & Branding” in relevance to the Handicrafts industry, at NCDPD (National Centre for Design & Product Development), set up under the ministry of Textiles Govt. of India. These are as part of the NCDPD HR Training component of Skill Development Programmes for the Handicrafts Sector for the year 2010-2011

·         Moderated the panel discussion session titled “Aspiring Entrepreneurship” at the “Women In Leadership Forum – India-2010”. This was their inaugural conference in India and was held in The Sheraton, New Delhi on 6th & 7th May, 2010. (Given a 4-star rating as a speaker for this)

·         Delivered lectures on “Intellectual Property Rights Issues & Branding” in relevance to the Handicrafts industry, at NCDPD (National Centre for Design & Product Development), set up under the ministry of Textiles Govt. of India.  These are as part of the NCDPD HR Training component of Skill Development Programmes for the Handicrafts Sector for the year 2009-2010

·         Delivered a lecture session on “Traditional Knowledge & Geographical Indications” at GIIP (Global Institute of Intellectual Property), New Delhi on July-2, 2009. This was part of GIIP’s Diploma program on IP & Patent laws. This session was delivered simultaneously for multiple centres through web support system

·         Delivered a technical session on “Emerging Issues in IP: Traditional Knowledge & Geographical Indications”, at a “National Workshop on IPR Awareness” organized at the CCS University, Meerut on 24 & 25th April, 2009. This was a 2 day workshop for IPR Training & Sensitization of Faculty members of the CCS University, Meerut on the occasion of World IP Day-2009. Was also a panelist in the panel discussion in a technical session in the same workshop

·         Invited by FICCI, Delhi, to provide comments & inputs for Government policy formulation on “the need for a separate code or legislation for Traditional Knowledge” in India.  These were put before the relevant ministry. Feb. 2009

·         Delivered lecture session on “Linkages Between Trade and Gender with a Focus on IPR issues”, at a Training Programme on “ Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and Related WTO Issues”. This was during a weeklong IPR training programme of DST (Department of Science & Technology) Govt. of India, in collaboration with CUTS-International, Jaipur, for training of senior & middle level Women Scientists from all over India. The event took place at Hotel Golden Tulip, Jaipur, from 3rd-7th Nov. 2008

·         Delivered lecture on “Emerging Issues in IP: Traditional Knowledge & Geographical Indications”, at the workshop “Intellectual Property as a Management Tool for Economic and Social Development” at IIPA (Indian Institute of Public Administration), New Delhi. This was part of the professional training programme (APPPA) for senior & middle level officers from various services of the Government of India, from all over India, on 25th & 26th July, 2008

·         Invited to speak on “Geographical Indications & Economic Development” at the “Seminar on WTO Negotiations and its Implications for India” at Bhubaneswar, Orissa. This was jointly organized by FICCI & the Department of Industries, Government of Orissa in cooperation with the British High Commission under the UK- FCO Economic Governance Project. This was held at Hotel Mayfair Lagoon, Bhubaneswar, Orissa on January 9th & 10th, 2008

·         Invited to speak on “The Key Challenges in Acquiring & Leveraging a GI” at the  “Workshop on Geographical Indications (GI) for Regional Development: Identifying Potential GIs for Bihar” at Patna. This was jointly organized by FISME, BIA & UNCTAD under a project “Strategies & Preparedness for Trade & Development” being sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry & DFID. This was held at BIA (Bihar Industries Association), Patna, Bihar, on December 28, 2007

·         Invited to speak on “The Role of Geographical Indications in Social & Economic Development” at the “Seminar on Intellectual Property for Social & Economic Development” at the IIPA (Indian Institute of Public Administration) New Delhi. This was  supported by the EU-TIDP and was held at the IIPA, New Delhi on November 23, 2007

·       \Delivered lectures, as guest faculty, on “Bauddhik Sampatti (Intellectual Property)”, at the Police Academy, Jaipur in Feburary & March ,2007, to train 3 batches of police personnel. This was during 3 sets of training programmes conducted by the academy under an MIT (Massachheusettes Institute of Technology) Action Research project for the improvement of performance of Police personnel in Rajasthan

·         Delivered lectures, as guest faculty, on “Intellectual Property Rights: The Basic Facts”, and “A Case Study of Geographical Indications”, at a “Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights” organized by OTS (Officers’ Training School), HCM-RIPA ( Rajasthan State Institute of Public Administration), Jaipur on Feb. 21, 2007. This was for sensitizing and creating IPR awareness amongst various government officers, doctors  & others from departments of the Government of Rajasthan

·         Invited to be part of the “State Level Roundtable Meeting on Appraisal of Documentation Practices of GRANITE Project in Rajasthan”. There was a presentation on “Advocacy Practices for involving Local Level Stakeholders with the process of Trade & Globalization- A case study of Rajasthan” made by a professor from IDS. November 18, 2006, Jaipur,  Rajasthan

·         Delivered lectures, as guest faculty, on “Geographical Indications” , and “Overview of Trade Marks” at a  “Workshop on Understanding Intellectual Property Rights”, organized by OTS (Officers’ Training School), HCM-RIPA ( Rajasthan State Institute of Public Administration), Jaipur on Sept. 7, 2006. This was for creating IPR awareness amongst various government officers (including IAS officers, Industries department officials) & others

·         Invited to speak, as resource speaker, on “Basic concepts of Geographical Indications & Traditional Knowledge” at a 2-day “National Seminar on Industrial Design & IPR”, jointly organized by WIPO and NID on World-IP Day-2006, held at NID-Ahemdabad on 25th & 26th April-2006. This was supported by Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Govt. of India

·         Invited to deliver lecture as resource faculty ,on “IPRs – Trade Marks and Geographical Indications” at a workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights & Patents”, conducted by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell of MNIT at MNIT-Jaipur (Rajasthan), on Apr-1, 2006

·         Delivered lectures, as resource faculty, on “Overview of Trade Marks” and “Geographical Indications” at a short term course on “ Intellectual Property Rights & Patent System in India” , conducted by NITTTR (Chandigarh) and MNIT- Jaipur from 6th-10th Mar. 2006, at MAIET-Jaipur. This course was for the IPR training of faculty of Engineering colleges from all over Rajasthan

·         Invited to speak on “Promoting Textlie, Handloom and Handicrafts Sectors : Role of the Government & Civil Society” at a state level workshop of CUTS-International in collaboration with Novib (Oxfam Netherlands) and NORAD (New Delhi), held in Jaipur (Rajasthan) on Dec-21, 2005

·         Invited to speak on “Handicrafts and IPR Protection” at  FICCI-FISME-CUTS International- inception workshop for a MoC-UNCTAD-DFID project on “Strategies and Preparedness for Trade and Globalization in India ( Small & Cottage Industries including Handicrafts and Leather Footwear)”, held in Jaipur (Rajasthan) on Nov. 7, 2005

·         Presented a paper titled “Innovation & IPR in Grassroots Cultural Enterprises”, as an invited speaker, at the “Innovasia-2005”, the first ever “ International conference on Innovation Management in the Asia-Pacific region”, held in Bangkok (Thailand) from 21st-23rd Sept. 2005

·         Invited to speak on “IPR and folklore”, at a conference  titled “IPR and The Media-Emerging Paradigms”, organized by VOICES-Bangalore together with WACC (World Association for Christian Communication )-London, “Madhyam”-Bangalore & “Alternative Law Forum”-Bangalore, held at Bangalore from 5th-7th April. 2004

·         Prepared & presented the project document for “Protection of Traditional Knowledge of Artisans & Promotion of Rural Livelihoods”  for UNIDO-Cluster Development Programme-India at New Delhi. (17th Mar-2004)

·         Prepared & presented the strategy and Roadmap for “Community Ownership of Brand & Protection of Traditional Knowledge in Artisanal Clusters” for UNIDO-Cluster Development Programme-India at New Delhi. (16th Feb-2004)
